THE TERRAIN
Ski and snowboard lovers find in Catedral the most extensive skiable surface of South America: over 2,964 acres (1,200 hectares), half of which comprises prepared runs, while the other half is off-piste terrain with breath-taking views and exciting adventure!
The Resort has more than 1,482 acres (600 hectares) of east-facing slopes suitable for skiing, with an excellent blanket of snow from early June to early October, and enjoying full daily light exposition. Its direct and close-to-base access to runs makes of Catedral a unique resort, with the most complete facilities on Base, which is at 3,380 ft. (1,030m) above sea level. The maximum reachable height above sea level, at 6,892 ft. (2,100 m), offers one of the most impressive views of the Andes mountain chain.
ON-PISTE SAFETY
Because mountain safety is the most important concern, and because only when feeling safe is it possible to enjoy the infinite winter sports and entertainment possibilities, Catedral Alta Patagonia has a professional team of 30 patrollers, 12 experienced coaches and traumatologysts specialised in mountain rescue techniques. All of them possess high expertise and have both national and international certificates.
SNOW-MAKING
At present, the Resort has an integral snow-making system that covers an approximate area of 25 acres (10 hectares) and goes from Mountain Base to Platform 1200. The 46 snow guns (fixed and mobile) used for the production of snow were brought from the United States, and operate by means of compressed air and water. These elements are conducted through two different tubes fused at the end of the snow gun, thus ensuring the highest quality of snow coverage. As part of the Modernization Plan, the snowmaking area was enlarged to 269,000 ft2 (25,000 m2) on the southern part of the Base and 26,900 ft2 (2,500 m2) at the end of Sextuple Chairlift.
SNOW GROOMERS
Catedral Alta Patagonia has ten Kassbohrer snow groomers, with great powered turbo diesel engines (280 HP) that allow for 111 acres of terrain grooming per hour.
Accessories: frontal drill, power shovel, as the one used in the construction of Half-Pipe runs.
A Pisten Bully - PB 300 is a newly-purchased snow groomer to optimize the maintenance of the trails during this year.
RADIO BASED TRANSPONDER TECHNOLOGY FOR SKI PASSES
Catedral Alta Patagonia has on its runs the most advanced and agile control system for lift passes of South America. This system has been designed by the company Ski Data, which is also responsible for many of the systems used in European and American resorts. The pass for Catedral Alta Patagonia is a "hands free" ticket based on radio frequency waves. Remote-operated gates detect a valid ski pass, embedded with a Tag-it read/write transponder, and open automatically. The transponder-card ski pass fits easily into a jacket pocket or handbag and never has to be removed, helping skiers enjoy a hassle free trip to the slopes, and allowing for a speeding-up of the access. With its headquarters in Austria and its 20-year experience, Ski Data definitely is the leading company in admission ticketing systems for ski resorts.
